CHINA MOJO: Horse Head Mongolian Jam...

I captured this amazing musical moment with my $100 FLIP camera in western China in June 2009. I am still reeling...

CHINA MOJO: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to email Dr. Rob Williams (the CHINA MOJO blogmaster).

Q. What is the CHINA MOJO course about?

A. See the course description here at the blog, or in the Champlain College spring 2011 course catalog.

You can take CHINA MOJO for 3 course credits as: 1) a junior seeking to satisfy your CORE 330 course credit; 2) A professional writing major seeking to satisfy a professional writing elective; 3) A CCM major in any CCM division program seeking to satisfy a free CCM elective. As a CCM student, you may also obtain permission from your program director to receive program elective credit for taking and passing the CHINA MOJO course.

Q. Do you have some ideas for helping students raise money for the CHINA MOJO trip?

A. Yes, and we will discuss these ideas at our very first organizational meeting later this fall.

Q. What will we do in the course after we return from China?

A. After our trip, we will focus our efforts on publishing a multimedia travelogue of our adventures and experiences studying and visiting China, and work to publish those adventures and experiences with the Champlain College Publishing Initiative (CCPI).

Question: What is CHINA MOJO?

Short answer: A Core 330 course. A trip. An adventure of a lifetime.

Long answer: This COR 330 course is an immersion in Chinese history, media, and culture, with a focus on the 20th and 21st century. Our course will also emphasize play with new digital media tools, and explore with students how these tools can be used to collaborate and come to a deeper understanding of a culture and a place very different from their own. Upon completion of the course, students will have a basic understanding of the unique qualities of Chinese culture, an appreciation for China’s complex and varied histories, and will have spent 9 days on the ground in China in an intensive immersion experience designed to provide students with a first-hand look, up close and personal, at Chinese history, culture, and contemporary society. We plan to publish our student multimedia travel work with the Champlain College Publishing Initiative once we return.
